Every business relies on technology, whether that’s cloud applications, servers, WiFi networks, laptops or connected devices. As systems evolve, software is updated and new devices are added, vulnerabilities can emerge without anyone realising. These hidden weaknesses can provide an opportunity for cyber criminals to gain access to your systems, disrupt operations or compromise sensitive data.

That’s where vulnerability scanning comes in.

What is vulnerability scanning?

Vulnerability scanning is a proactive assessment of your IT environment that identifies known security weaknesses across your networks, systems and connected devices.

Rather than waiting for a problem to occur, vulnerability scanning highlights areas that could be exploited by attackers, allowing them to be addressed before they become a genuine security risk.

A scan can identify issues such as:

Outdated software or operating systems

Missing security patches

Weak configurations

Exposed services or ports

Network vulnerabilities

Known security flaws in hardware and software

The result is a clear picture of where improvements are needed and practical recommendations on how to strengthen your security.

Why does it matter?

Cyber threats continue to evolve, with attackers constantly searching for organisations that have overlooked a vulnerability.

Even businesses with firewalls, antivirus software and security policies in place can develop weaknesses over time. New software updates, additional users, remote working and changing business requirements all have the potential to introduce new risks.

Regular vulnerability scanning helps businesses:

Identify security gaps before they’re exploited

Reduce cyber risk

Support compliance requirements

Prioritise security improvements

Increase confidence that systems remain protected

It’s a straightforward way to stay one step ahead.

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming a key component of modern energy strategies because they allow businesses to make better use of the power they generate.

Battery storage can help businesses:

Store electricity when tariffs are lower

Use stored energy during expensive peak periods

Capture excess solar generation for later use

Improve resilience during grid interruptions

Reduce peak demand charges

Modern battery systems are highly flexible, require minimal maintenance and can be tailored to suit individual business requirements.

For many organisations, combining solar generation with battery storage delivers the greatest benefit, allowing more self-generated electricity to be used on site rather than exported.

Energy Resilience Matters More Than Ever

For some businesses, an interruption to power supply is inconvenient.

For others, it can be extremely costly.

Manufacturing facilities, logistics operations, food production businesses, data centres, healthcare providers and many other organisations rely on a consistent and reliable energy supply to operate effectively.

Generating and storing energy on-site can help reduce reliance on a single source of supply and improve operational resilience.

While complete energy independence may not always be realistic, increasing control over energy supply can significantly reduce risk and improve business continuity.

Start the Conversation

If you’re interested in generating your own energy, exploring battery storage or understanding what options are available for your site, we’re here to help.

In an energy broker market often driven by cold sales and quick transactions, we believe the real value lies in what happens after the contract is signed.

We received some great feedback on our customer service recently from a client who joined Core last year following a referral from a longstanding client, which is a great reminder in itself of how important strong relationships and trust are in what we do.

We tendered and negotiated new gas and electricity contracts on their behalf. When we contacted them to confirm that their new electricity and gas suppliers had gone live smoothly and on time, they gave us some fantastic feedback about their experience of working with Core.

Feedback like this is means a lot to our team, who always have the client’s best interests as their key focus.

“It’s been a pleasure working with you on this, Core has been exceptionally supportive and sorted everything.”

At Core Facility Services, we stay with our clients every step of the way, ensuring a seamless transition, clear communication and ongoing support long after the deal is done.

It is also great to see the relationship continuing to grow, with the client now exploring water procurement as their next project with us.

This positive experience really demonstrates the difference between simply arranging energy procurement and truly managing the client relationship. Well done Team Core!

Energy continues to be one of the biggest challenges facing businesses today. Rising costs, ongoing volatility and increasing pressure on supply are making it harder to plan and manage operational spend.

The good news is there are practical, proven steps you can take to reduce usage, improve cost certainty and build greater resilience.

At Core, we work with businesses to take a structured approach, starting with understanding usage, then reducing consumption and finally exploring on-site generation.

Start with Understanding Your Energy Use

The first step is visibility.

Many businesses don’t have a clear picture of where energy is being used or wasted across their site. Without that, it’s difficult to make informed decisions.

Energy monitoring allows you to:

Identify inefficiencies, such as systems running unnecessarily

Track usage across buildings, circuits or individual equipment

Build a clear baseline for future improvements

Monitoring can be set up to suit your site, from high-level reporting through to detailed tracking of specific systems.

It’s a straightforward way to take control and start managing energy more effectively.

Reduce Consumption with Proven Improvements

Once you understand your usage, the next step is reducing it.

There are a number of well-established technologies that can deliver immediate impact, including:

LED lighting upgrades

Heating system improvements

Voltage optimisation

Plant and equipment upgrades

These changes are practical, cost-effective and often deliver quick returns.

In many cases, reducing waste and improving efficiency can significantly lower energy bills without major disruption.

Generate Your Own Energy

For businesses looking to go further, on-site energy generation is becoming an increasingly attractive option.

Generating your own energy can:

Reduce reliance on the grid

Improve long-term cost certainty

Increase resilience during supply disruptions

There are a range of technologies available, depending on your site and requirements:

Power generation:

Solar PV (the most common and cost-effective option)

Wind turbines

Hydroelectric systems

Diesel or HVO generators

Power and heat:

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems

Heat solutions:

Biomass systems

Air source heat pumps (ASHP)

Ground source heat pumps (GSHP)

Solar PV is often the starting point for many businesses due to its reliability and return on investment.

Battery Storage: Getting More from Your Energy

Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming a key part of modern energy strategies.

They allow you to:

Store energy when tariffs are lower and use it when costs rise

Capture excess energy generated on-site

Support critical systems during grid interruptions

Battery systems are low maintenance, long-lasting and can be tailored to your site’s energy profile. We can help you plan, evaluate and implement these on your site.

Looking Beyond Energy: Water Supply Options

For some businesses, managing utilities goes beyond energy. Borehole water systems can provide an alternative to mains supply, helping reduce long-term costs and improve resilience.

We can assess the feasibility of a borehole system and provide guidance based on your site and usage.

A Practical, Step-by-Step Approach

There’s no single solution that fits every business.

The most effective approach is to take things step by step:

Understand your energy usage

Reduce where possible

Explore generation and storage options

By combining the right mix of solutions, businesses can take greater control of their energy strategy and reduce exposure to ongoing market volatility.

How We Can Help

At Core, we support businesses at every stage, from monitoring and optimisation through to full energy strategy and implementation.

We focus on what works commercially, helping you make informed decisions based on your site, your usage and your goals.

Start the Conversation

For hotel owners, seamless and robust network infrastructure is no longer a hidden technical detail. It is the operational backbone of the modern luxury experience. Without the right infrastructure, even the most beautifully designed property cannot deliver the level of consistency, security and personalisation today’s guests demand.

Our IT experts at Core Facility Services work with our luxury hotel clients to design and install state-of-the-art IT, networks and technology that support their guest experience.

We also provide risk management and business continuity planning. One project involved implementing robust security to prevent cyber threats to the business’s 120 computers and 8 servers. The key priority was to protect the end points to make sure that none of their staff or guests were ever at risk of being on the receiving end of a virus or other malicious content.

Why Connectivity Is Now a Core Part of Luxury

The definition of luxury has evolved. Guests expect high-performance technology as naturally as they expect fine dining or five-star service. From streaming and smart-room controls to flawless mobile connectivity, the digital experience is now inseparable from the physical one.

Behind this sits a complex, integrated network that must operate with absolute reliability. When the network is engineered correctly, front-of-house and back-office systems run seamlessly: PMS platforms remain uninterrupted, guest requests are fulfilled instantly, and staff communications stay secure and consistent across the property. When it isn’t, the guest experience suffers.

Secure, Reliable, Invisible — The Technology Standard Luxury Demands

At Core, we work closely with our luxury hotel clients to ensure their systems remain secure, their guest experience remains outstanding, and their connectivity remains consistently reliable. Our approach blends engineering precision with an understanding of luxury operations, where failure is not an option and small interruptions quickly become major service issues.

Grantley Hall is one of the strongest examples of this partnership. We have worked with the Grantley Hall team since before the resort opened its doors, designing and installing state-of-the-art IT systems, networks and technology across the entire estate. Technology plays a major role in Grantley Hall’s guest journey, so the infrastructure needed to be robust, future-proof and aligned with the expectations of a world-class luxury destination.

Expertise Beyond the Everyday

Our support extends far beyond core hospitality systems. We are also highly experienced in delivering reliable, high-capacity connectivity for events, an essential capability for resorts hosting weddings, conferences, VIP functions and corporate gatherings. Whether it’s a high-profile charity fundraising event or a discreet private function, stable and secure connectivity is essential to success, and we ensure every technological detail supports the occasion.

Setting a New Standard for Digital Luxury

As luxury hospitality continues to evolve, the expectation for seamless technology will only increase. Properties that invest in robust, scalable and secure infrastructure will set themselves apart. At Core, we help ensure that digital foundations are as exceptional as the guest experience our hospitality clients strive to deliver.

Glasgow office opening follows national growth strategy and rising demand for cost and compliance expertise across the UK.

Core Facility Services will officially open its new Scottish office in Glasgow this month (August), marking a significant step in the firm’s UK-wide expansion.

The move follows the recent appointment of Commercial Director Chris Quinn, whose remit includes spearheading national growth with a particular focus on Scotland.

Core Facility Services helps businesses save time and money by managing essential services like energy, water, IT and waste.

The new office forms part of Core’s long-term strategy to bring its expertise in cost management, compliance and sustainability to businesses across the UK.

To support growth in Scotland, David Murray has joined the company as New Business Development Executive and will be based at the Glasgow office. He will focus on supporting Scottish businesses with cost-effective solutions in energy, water, waste and IT, particularly in sectors under pressure from regulatory changes and rising operational costs.

Core has also expanded its business development team in Yorkshire, with two further hires at its Elland head office this summer, reinforcing its commitment to support more businesses with cost and compliance management.

The new appointments come as businesses across the UK face continued economic pressure and an urgent need to manage costs without compromising compliance or sustainability goals.

Chris Quinn, Commercial Director at Core Facility Services, said:

“Opening our Glasgow office is a major milestone in our growth journey and reflects increasing demand from Scottish businesses for practical, cost-focused support in a complex regulatory environment.

“Our growing team, both in Scotland and Yorkshire, means we can continue to deliver outstanding service while scaling our operations.”

“We are building momentum across the UK and this new base in Glasgow allows us to be closer to our Scottish clients while continuing to grow our national footprint.

“Our team brings a unique combination of commercial expertise, technical knowledge and a highly personalised service model that resonates with businesses looking for real value.”

This announcement follows a series of strategic leadership appointments at Core, including the promotion of key operational leaders and the strengthening of the business’s focus on sustainability and compliance.

Core has been helping clients manage cost, risk and compliance for over 20 years and has dedicated teams focusing on energy, water, IT, waste and sustainability.
