MP Jason McCartney has praised businesses in Kirklees for working together to tackle climate change.
The Colne Valley MP has pledged his support for Gain Kirklees, an innovative collaboration that will see businesses commit to tough sustainability targets and create a fund for eco projects in the community.
Mr McCartney said: “It’s fantastic to see business and community working together for mutual benefit to make Kirklees a better place for everyone who lives and works here.
“If your business isn’t involved yet I would urge you to come on board so that we can see real change in our region and lead by example when it comes to facing the challenge of the climate emergency head on,” he added.
Gain Kirklees has been masterminded by sustainability experts at Huddersfield’s Core Facility Services in partnership with One Community, the Kirklees Community Foundation.
The scheme helps businesses reduce their impact on the environment, cut energy and waste costs, engage their staff and give something back to the local community.
John Smith’s Stadium and Chadwick Lawrence solicitors are just two of the local organisations that have committed to developing a meaningful sustainability plan as part of the initiative.
Gareth Henderson, chairman of Core Facility Services, thanked Mr McCartney for his support and said he had been overwhelmed by the way Kirklees had embraced the concept.
“We very much welcome the involvement of our MP and hope that with his help we can demonstrate how a strong sense of community can achieve great things, through partnership, as we face the biggest challenge of our generation,” said Gareth.
