Smartmove Partnership at the Core of the Community

A unique partnership between Halifax Town sponsor Core and homeless charity Smartmove is providing vital extra funds to help homeless people in Calderdale access shelter and skills.

Core first teamed up with Smartmove over the summer to help tackle high energy bills at the charity’s offices and accommodation sites.

“We renegotiated their gas and electricity contracts to reduce their bills which immediately left them with more money to support local people who really need help to find somewhere to live,” said Dru Widdowson of Core.

“As we got to know Smartmove we realised how important a role they play in our community and we were keen to offer more help and really make a difference,” he added.

Core recently announced that it will be principal sponsor of FC Halifax Town for another season, earning it the nickname “The Core of Halifax”.

The company, which recently expanded into new premises in Elland, now makes a donation to Smartmove every time it starts working with a new energy client in Calderdale.

Dom Furby at Calderdale Smartmove said: “Core have already made a difference to our income by making sure we’re not spending too much on our bills and this extra support is a welcome boost during what is a particularly challenging time for many people living in our region.

“We’re now seeing regular donations coming in from Core to support our accommodation services, skills training and physical and mental wellbeing support.

“We can’t thank Core enough for taking such a proactive approach to community partnership and we are already seeing the impact this is having on the support and services we can offer,” he added.
